Sugar Land, incorporated in 1959, was named for its flourishing sugar cane industry, which began in the 1820s. Now one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, Sugar Land has transformed from a rural farm-and-ranch economy to a diversified and expanding economic base. The city boasts numerous, established and emerging master-planned communities, most served by the Fort Bend Independent School District.
 
Missouri City, the “Show Me” city, began in 1894 as a railroad town. Missouri City is home to middle-market and upscale master-planned residential developments served primarily by the Fort Bend Independent School District. (A small [portion of Missouri City is located within Harris County and is served by Harris County ISD.) Missouri City has one of the largest and most extensive park systems in Fort Bend County with more than 512 acres of parkland with at least 18 parks offering a wide range of facilities and activities from picnicking and fishing to jogging, softball and disc golf.

The Smart Financial Centre, owned by the City of Sugar Land, is the only indoor, state-of-the-art, live performance venue of its kind for top in the Greater Houston area. Performances range from music and comedy artists to family shows, theater, and cultural and performing arts.
