Hedwig Village

A neighborhood with the quintessential family-oriented lifestyle.

"Local folklore has it that Hedwig Village was once a good camping ground for the Native Americans who left their arrowheads for subsequent generations to unearth."

Hedwig Village began with a generous German immigrant named Hedwig Jankowski Schroeder, who originally purchased the land that has become Hedwig Road for a mere twenty-five cents an acre. She later donated the land to the community, and the area became known as Hedwig Village. Local folklore has it that Hedwig Village was once a good camping ground for Sam Houston’s forces and the Native Americans, who left their arrowheads for subsequent generations to unearth. The area was incorporated in 1954 and remains separate from the City of Houston, with its own city hall and police department. Zoning restrictions allow for single-family homes with a minimum lot size of 15,000 square feet in one area and 21,000 square feet in another. At one square mile in size, Hedwig Village is one of the smallest self-rule municipalities in Harris County, while offering plenty of amenities for its residents, including award-winning schools, a natural setting and peaceful, rambling properties.
