Greenwood King Properties Realtor® Margaret Mauel Schwartz transitioned to residential real estate sales after an initial career as a civil engineer and private equity associate. “I became more fascinated by how neighborhoods and supply/demand fit together than how individual pieces of brick and steel fit together,” Margaret explains. “I went back to school and earned an MBA to round out my skill set in the business side of real estate.”
Real estate balances Margaret’s passion for people, construction, design, and business. Passionate, curious, creative, and driven, she loves problem-solving and finding win-win solutions to complex problems. She also holds a deep appreciation for interior design, art, and architecture. “I have had that appreciation since I can remember, but it solidified when I lived in London as a high-schooler and traveled extensively throughout Europe, experiencing vastly different architectural styles first-hand.”
As a civil engineer, Margaret worked for Clark Construction in Washington, D.C., in pre-construction and estimating on mixed-use, residential, and retail projects across the nation. She also worked on-site as a construction engineer on a large mixed-use residential project inside the District. “Managing complex construction projects gave me a foundation and shaped my understanding of the nuts and bolts of our built environment,” she says.
After business school, Margaret worked at Pennybacker Capital, a real estate private equity firm in Austin. She believes her private equity experience “provides a fantastic understanding of the finance and transactional side of real estate as well as the rental-management market.”
A native Houstonian, Margaret grew up in West University and River Oaks. She graduated from St. John’s School and attended The American School in London while living there with her family. Margaret received a degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame Honors Program. She holds an MBA with concentrations in real estate finance and private equity from the University of Texas McCombs School of Business.
Margaret serves on the board of the Goodwill Houston Foundation and the McCombs School of Business Real Estate Center Advisory Council. She enjoys reading, design, travel, exploring new restaurants, and spending time with her husband, family, and dog Chance the Napper.
Margaret and her husband are members of St. Anne’s Catholic Church and reside in the Cherryhurst neighborhood of Montrose.
