Elissa Lorenzen decided to become a member of NAR to pursue her passion for the real estate market and homes. After getting her youngest child into kindergarten, she knew it was time to jump in. “I decided it was time for me to do something for myself,” she said. “Real estate is always evolving and involves working closely with others. I can still be with my kids, so it felt like the right fit.”
Her former employment was in the hospitality industry, where Elissa learned the importance of working under pressure and multitasking. Taking on a real estate career is where she feels at home. “I have always loved the energy and knowing that the next day is never going to be the same as the last when you walk in the door. I feel like real estate has some of these same qualities,” she added.
Originally form Atlanta, Georgia, Elissa attended the boarding school, Oldfields School in Glencoe, Maryland. She then went onto to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Hotel/Restaurant Management from Lynn University in Florida and a Culinary Arts degree from Johnson and Wales University in South Carolina. Even during college, Lorenzen was inspired by collaborating with others. “I enjoyed my internships that I did the most while I was attending college, I’ve always enjoyed working and learning and being around people,” she said. She also realized her potential of expanding her horizons and working with others with plans to use these lessons in as a Realtor®.
“In college, I worked the breakfast station as an omelet maker, and I was so nervous to be put on the spot to flip these omelets in the air,” she said. “I came to really enjoy it, and I interacted with the guests. I think if anything life can sometimes be scary, but you find out you might enjoy something more than you thought. It can build your confidence. It was a big leap for me to get my license and walk into an office and having to learn a whole new career, programs, documents, people. I have really enjoyed it.”
Elissa, who is married with children, describes her personality as laid back but stable and grounded. “I like to think of myself as a realist and seeing things in their true light. The things that make me tick are to have and try new activities and to always be learning from others and my own experiences,” she said.
In her free time, Lorenzen enjoys tennis, walking, hiking, traveling, food and reading in addition to participating in the National Charity League for the past six years.
